Making Digital Tools Work for Farmers: Bridging Gender Gaps and Enhancing Livelihoods.

Case StudyDigital to Tackle Wicked Problems 11:10 AM - 11:35 AM (Africa/Accra) 2024/03/19 11:10:00 UTC - 2024/03/19 11:35:00 UTC
Exploring digital tools' potential to enhance smallholders' livelihoods and boost gender equality and inclusivity in Africa. Discussing agricultural Africa's ICT revolution and early findings on AgTech trends from ongoing research funded by IDRC.
A collaboration between IDinsight and IDRC, this scoping research, concluding in June 2024, will unveil the key research gaps in the digital/gender/agriculture cross-sectional sector.
We aim to pinpoint emerging trends and key drivers to digital platforms benefitting smallholder farmers with a specific lens on the digital gender gap in the sect
The scoping research shed light on gender gaps in AgTech's digital divide through literature reviews and interviews. This is a public good that can steer key Ag-tech sector decision-makers towards informed investments and further research.

The Power of Local Partnerships: Lessons Learned from IFAD’s Country-Led ICT4Ag Assessments

Panel DiscussionLocal Leadership for a Digital Future 11:35 AM - 12:25 PM (Africa/Accra) 2024/03/19 11:35:00 UTC - 2024/03/19 12:25:00 UTC
DG and IFAD would like to assemble a panel to share learnings pertaining to local partnerships across various contexts, including Ghana, from country-level ICT4Ag ecosystem assessments conducted by the DAS program
Assessments have shown that scaling digital solutions in harnessing the benefits of ICT4Ag remains a critical challenge. While context is key in proposing an optimal model of partnership, some recurring themes have emerged, including the need for local leadership and sustainability, and can provide useful guidance for development stakeholders.
Recommendations emerging from ICT4Ag assessments directly inform IFAD’s investments and programming country strategic opportunities programme (COSOP), which is the 4-year strategic planning document for individual IFAD countries.
