Digital public goods or DPGs have captured the attention of decision-makers and development professionals worldwide. They promise to create sweeping transformations in the way services are delivered, the way citizens interact with government, and the way data informs action. The scope and speed of DPGs promise to make what was seemingly impossible, possible. But how can our investments in DPGs turn this promise into reality? How can DPGs achieve scale, be sustainable, and promote local expertise and ownership? What kinds of capacities and institutions do we need to build – locally and globally – to achieve this vision?
This panel will bring together experts with first-hand experience on these topics, including a DPG software developer, a DPG researcher, and organizations that have done the hard work of scaling up and building DPG ecosystems at the national level. We will highlight the challenges and opportunities they have faced in their work. Most importantly, we need your expertise!
Throughout the session, we'll be asking for audience members' opinions so we can collectively reimagine digital transformation through DPGs.
